Wonderful Golfing Experience
Amazing course and the 14th , 15th and 16th are simply breathtaking. Such an enjoyable challenge. Every time I play I cannot wait to return. Highly recommended
Tough Slog!
I wasn't quite sure what to expect upon my first round on the Monty course. Have heard mixed reviews from friends regarding their experience i was eager to have a crack at the venue. On first glance of the course it definitely was not how i envisaged the course to look. One reviewer had called it "just a big field" and i couldn't really argue with that statement after my visit. The fairways were visibly poor, the bunkers are savage, so deep but the sand was rock solid inside giving you little or no chance to make any distance out of them. I twice found myself lining up shots to the wrong green only for my playing partner to thankfully advise me correctly. The first nine was forgettable, the back 9 was a lot more enjoyable on all levels. Nice finishing hole which was probably the pick of the bunch for me. Overall i didn't enjoy the course as much as i hoped i would. The weather was harsh and that combined with the rough and horrible bunkers made for a disappointing experience. Lower handicaps i'm sure will relish the challenge.
Lovely course
Very good round - course doesn't play that hard but the amount of bunkers, their positioning and depth makes it a lot harder. All bunkers positioned where you would hit off the tee and around the green. Shot selection massive
Featureless - difficult bunkers
I honestly have to say I found this course quite featureless: effectively no water hazards, hardly any trees. The main hazards are the bunkers. The featurelessness (especially on the front nine) made a lot of holes blend into each other. As many people have said, the bunkers are incredibly deep - best to play short and stay out. The second 9 are an improvement on the first, in fairness - and the greens are in very good condition.
Such lovely windy day
Everything was marvelous, great hospitality, tidying and perfect in all details... thanks to making me feel like a champion golfer during an Irish open. Unfortunately I can't visit properly the mansion, library and rooms... there was a lot story around.
Great Challenge
Lovely course feels like a links, in excellent condition with fast tricky greens.
Top parkland course
Great course and a decent challenge.
It's fairly open for the most part off the tee so the key is with an iron in hand for the most part.
Greens had recently been scraped and sanded when we played but other than that in great condition.
A nice mix of challenging holes and opportunities.
And what a fantastic piece of land Carton House is on!
O'Meara Course
This is one of my favourite courses to play every year. The view from the 13th tee is something else. My favourite holes are the 14th ,15th & 16th, in what what I like to call my Amen Corner. I recommend this golf course to any golfer.
Like this course
Is in great condition. Greens are nice and fast. A good challenge
Ridiculous
Brother-in-law over from American so booked a four ball on the Monty Course. On the morning rang Course to see if it was open (storm from previous night and very strong wind blowing). Was advised Course was open so teed off at 09.10hrs. The Course was very wet, bunkers were full with water and the ball would not stop on the Greens. As one of the group was a visitor persisted for 7 holes then gave up. No way course should have opened, but as I prepaid, they obviously did nor want to refund. Wanted to complain to Pro Shop, but partners just wanted to get into cars and leave. Have written separately to Carton to complain. A joke.
Very nice golf course
We loved this place, two nice courses with different layouts
Challenging
Tough course not for the faint hearted. Toughest bunkers played. Immaculate course conditions on a wet day, didn't put us off. will be back to play the omeara!
Avoid the bunkers!
Course in good condition. Bunkers everywhere and tough to get out of. Hard to avoid them. Not many memorable holes. Most of them seemed to merge into each other. Long walk to and from first and last holes so give yourself plenty of time to get to the tee. Staff helpful in offering earlier tee time.
top class course
My first time playing here but it won't be the last, really enjoyed the golf and the whole experience. This is fantastic course and i highly recommend it. My friends and I had a great day. We will definitely be back.
Montgomery Course is a challenge for any golfer
Difficult but enjoyable course. Bunkers are very challenging.
Definitely worth the extra spend over the average pay and play courses. Staff were very friendly and they ensured that the pace of play was good.
Course was not too crowded and we were able to book a tee time less than 24 hours in advance.
O meara,
a lovely course, bit wet even after some good weather. Good test as quiet long. Greens in good condition, rough was wet and ball picking up mud, over all enjoyed it.
2nd attempt deemed a must
The truth of it all is that I am really not able to rate this course in a serious manner.
I arrived late as neither my GPS (fairly new actually and rather expensive) or Google Maps could find the course an consequently didn't really have time to go to the range which is a little far away. However, the nice lady at the check-in counter ensured me that I didn't need to stick to my tee time. Given the weather conditions (gale winds and pouring down in truck loads) I was likely to be the sole player on the course. Naturally that made me think, but then again... my green fee was prepaid and non refundable.
End of the story is that after having been to the practice range and played the first two holes I was soaked to the bones despite wearing state of the art rain gear. At the end of fourth hole my teeth were clattering and by the green on fifth I had to throw in the towel.
Anyway, from what I managed to see and play the course appears too be fantastic and despite the over abundance of bunkers the design appears always to leave you an option for an alternative approach.
Club house and service - impeccable.
