Dromoland Golf & Country Club is set within the 360 acre estate of Dromoland Castle. Much more than just a golf club, visitors are free to avail of the many leisure facilities including gymnasium, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. The castle and estate date back to the 16th century, while the parkland golf course has developed a fine reputation as a top venue over the past few decades. The golf course is set within an estate of rich woodland around a huge natural lake and offers extensive views of the beautifully restored Dromoland Castle. Over the latter holes, expansive landscape views of the River Shannon complement the challenge offered by the golf course, while the River Rine also gently meanders its way through the estate. Though a relatively short course, measuring just over 6,000 yards, there are plenty of reasons it should not be taken lightly, as you will discover when you get the chance to play at Dromoland. You will encounter rolling hills, centuries old trees and water hazards, which will test golfing prowess to the limit.
The beauty and serenity of the location as well as the density of the estates' wildlife enrich the golfing experience. Deer often venture towards the lakeshore for a drink in the setting sun, different breeds of pheasant can be seen in their hundreds all over the course, while the whole surrounding woodland is rich in chorus of birdsong.
In recent years, Dromoland has been the home of the "Whyte and McKay Pro Celebrity Golf Tournament". During this time, such noted players as Gary Player, Sandy Lyle, Sam Torrance and Hale Irwin have all played the course and were united in their high praise of the course layout and challenge. Dromoland Golf Course is due to undergo some design alterations in the coming months, which will be overseen by renowned architect, Ron Kirby.
