Course Description
The original course was laid out by William Park, Musselburgh Open Golf Champion, who wrote in his brief 'the turf is very good and resembles very much the turf to be found on seaside courses'.
The only hiccup in the Club's history took place in 1948 when the river Tweed rose some 1 feet above normal level, once in a century flood, and so much damage was done that the Club was forced to close down. Ten years later the Club was reformed on a temporary lease and was redesigned by John Slade, Duddingston. Play resumed in 1958 and through strenuous efforts by a few members an with financial support from the local community the Club flourished. The fortunes of the Club changed dramatically in 1979 when the course was purchased out right and a few years later in 1985 a new clubhouse was built. Unlike other Border courses the terrain is flat and presents few difficulties other than the River Tweed, which is defined as a 'lateral water hazard'. It is a delightful holiday course with a SSS of 66.

I am a member at St Boswells golf club and think its . The scenery is wonderful but Fred and Craig (the greenkeepers) are crap they put too much sand in the bunkers and the fairways are always to long . get it sorted out and the it will be one of the best 9 holed courses in the borders . PERIOD.

This is one of the most picturesque courses you would ever wish to play. Every golfer has a great chance here. The second hole is one to savour. From an extremely elevated green your tee shot seems to soar into the atmosphere and hopefully land on the green. If you manage to hit the green you 'may' get your par. If you don't, hope to get a four. The whole area has an atmosphere. The famous writer Ludovic Kennedy (Husband of Moira Shearer of 'Red Shoes' fame)has extremely close connections with the area.He has written some of his famous books whilst resident locally. Mr. Kennedy (I'm not sure whether he has been Knighted yet!!!) has played St. Boswells and writes about it with great enthusiasm in his auto-biography 'On My Way To The Club'. If you want a very pleasant round of golf without too many problems set your sights on 'ST. BOSWELLS'.

I have organised a tournament over the past three years on the Freedom of the Fairways passport and the one course we have consistently gone back to is Bossys. Not a difficult course, but one of the nicest situated I have ever played. The walk up to the third on a nice day gives a beautiful view up the river Gala as it bends round to the right. I can guarantee that anyone playing this course will come back as soon as possible. Nice wide fairways and very well tended greens aid to a thoroughly enjoyable round.
