Newtonmore is a fine play, very much what this Yank was expecting from an inland course. Fairways were excellent. Unfortunately, the greens were freshly aerated but appeared to be in good shape otherwise.
The nine longish par-4 holes (365 yards or more) and the three par 3s (average of 171 yards) tests the middle handicapper from the white tees (6029 yards), so I suggest the yellow (guest tees) at 5440 yards even though the attendant will probably offer the white tees to a polite guest on a weekday. Ladies don't get much help off the tee (5289 yards from the reds) so this is not the best course for a mixed group.
Excellent clubhouse with dining room; entire staff was efficient and congenial (even on a rainy day). This is a good value on the weekday.
Finally, the eighteenth does require a shot back across the entrance road, so take plenty of club off the tee and aim left for a peek at the flagstick.
