Pumpherston Golf Club, designed by Graeme Webster, offers a superior golfing challenge, including water features over the length of the 6,000-yard, par-70 golf course and R&A-standard greens.

A round at Pumpherston Golf Club begins on Paraffin Young, a 398-yard par 4 that requires a straight drive and attention on hazards surrounding the green: bunkers right, deep rough behind. Hitters unpack long games on Pentlands, the 516-yard par-5 10th, which features a narrow fairway, requiring a straight tee shot; 150 yards from the green, the fairway drops, making a tricky approach. Close the round on Iranapol, another long hole, at 505 yards and par 5, and where water guards the green, meaning that length alone won't help you.

Book a seat in the Pumpherston Golf Club's clubhouse early - and let the clubhouse caterer know about any dietary restrictions, which the staff can work with - and head up for lunch and a drink with views of the golf course.

Nice course, great value, needs signage!

Really nice course, incredible value. Cons: Back 9 layout kind of all over the place, got lost after 16th as no signs to 17th tee. Would definitely play again and recommend however.

Good days Golfing at Pumpherston

Reserved a round for a 3 ball (H/caps 4,9 and 13) here on Tuesday 17th August and wasn't disappointed. From the friendly reception at the pro shop to the fantastic warm up area and the course itself all 3 of us thought it was great VFM. The course although short to what we are used to provided a stiff test and with some of the pin positions (placed on slopes etc) offering up a few 3-putts throughout the round. It was also nice to see directional arrow signs on the sharp dog legs and general directional signs dotted around the course to keep us newbies right, although it would also have been an idea to possibly have a course map on the back of the scorecard, numerous times one of our trio landed up in trouble in trees, bushes etc from running through the fairways on some doglegs. We all thought that the greens were excellent and were sure that the greenkeeper had fallen out with his partner that morning due to some of the pin placements, again we all liked the mix of par 3's and also that the Par 5's gave the longer hitters the opportunity to get to the green in 2 giving them the opportunity to putt for Eagle. Post round the clubhouse was friendly although quiet at 1635 on a Tuesday afternoon, we all enjoyed our post match refreshments, especially as it was only £5 for an IPA and 2 pints of soda water and lime. We will return and maybe sample what the kitchen has to offer next time

Better the second time

Played this course once before and recall being absolutely shattered by the end. It's not particularly hilly, just very long Inc some lengthy walks to next tee. Took energy bars and gels this time
There wasn't any kind of welcome as the pro shop was locked for the 20 mins before we arrived right up to tee off time. We made do with Garmon and a discarded card found on the 11th
Onto the course, it's a lot more technical than you think e. g. dog leg on 2nd is 200 yards away so no point blasting a driver. However, a lot of 'good' drives off the tee turned out to be not so brilliant - course knowledge.
Pleased to par the last 2 holes (par 5's)

Really nice course

Course was in great condition with fast, level greens and fairways in good condition. If I had one minor gripe it is that there are a lot of doglegs and 'blind' holes and no maps to assist those without the local knowledge. For example, at the 16th, I think my ball ended up in a pond which was invisible from where I played my 2nd shot. However, overall I really enjoyed the course and would visit again.

Great wee course

Great layout with quality true greens and beautiful views. Not to difficult but wrong club selection can leave you with some very hard shots on some of the tighter holes. Not too hilly and a very enjoyable walk. Definitely a hidden gem of a course. Will definitely be back.

A summer course

A nice layout. The fairways and greens were good but the tees were really poor. Close to a housing estate so there were people everywhere and drunk guys fishing at one of the greens. This is a summer course. You can imagine it being very soggy after a bit of rain. Would I hurry back, no. Would I play again, yes (in summer) For what I paid, its value for money.
