Course Description
By D Campbel (d.campbel@ntlworld.com)
Haggs Castle has gone through an extensive redesign in recent years, forced on the club because, a new river walkway on the old 10th meant 6 new holes had to be constructed. The new part of the course is only 2 years old, but has bedded in well, a combination of clever hole design (using existing mature trees), and extensive planting makes the 'join' difficult to see.
The course is by far the best in the Glasgow area. A mature parkland/ woodland championship layout. The emphasis is on ball placement, greens are narrow and raised. It is the fairest golf course I have ever played, good shots are rewarded, bad shots are punished in relation to how bad they are (no silly side of the hill fairway nonsense here!), unlike most of the courses in the area.
The course is well presented, fairways are well cut and shaped, greens run fast and true. The course enjoys a slightly longer season than most courses in the area.

I was a member of Haggs Castle Golf Club from 1965-1970. I resigned from the club when I moved to London. I now live in Canberra, Australia. I would be grateful if you could put me in touch with club members of that era. I won the club's Campbell Murray Medal in 1967.
