Accomodation Guide

Slieve Donard Accomodation Guide

Situated where the "Mountains of Mourne Sweep down to the sea" (to quote the immortal words of Percy French), the Slieve Donard Hotel stands in 6 acres of private grounds which extend to an extensive golden strand.

Originally a luxurious railway hotel, the Slieve Donard is now owned by the Hastings Hotels Group, and offers Grade A accommodation and excellent facilities for a conference, wedding, golfing or holiday break.

The Slieve Donard Hotel at Newcastle is truly one of Ireland's great holiday hotels. Newcastle is a splendid centre for golfers and fishermen and is the gateway to the Mourne Mountains and Tollymore Forest Park, which provides excellent walking and pony trekking trails.

Located on the ground floor of the hotel, is an exclusive shop selling gifts to suit all tastes, including jewelry, aromatic oils and soaps, continental chocolates, ceramics, perfumes, and an exquisite range of Pierre Cardin designer clothes and accessories.

The oak-paneled library has a warm comfortable atmosphere, and on cooler days a fire blazes to welcome guests. The library is just right for accommodating up to 30 people for a seminar, trade show, luncheon or dinner party.

Situated at the entrance to Slieve Donard, is the attractively designed Percy French, named after Newcastle's favourite singer and composer. This Inn has become a popular venue for visitors looking for a good pub lunch or evening meal. The oak interior of the Inn has a warm and comfortable atmosphere, with a fire blazing in the open hearth. The glass 'Conservatory' proves an ideal meeting place for a drink, particularly in the summer.

ROOMS: 120 luxurious guestrooms, each exquisitely decorated and furnished, with facilities one would expect from a top international hotel. Many of the rooms and deluxe suites offer breathtaking views of the Mourne Mountains or over the world-renowned Royal County Down Golf Course.

LOCATION: North Eastern Ireland, adjacent to Royal County Down Golf Club

FACILITIES: Swimming Pool • Tennis • Jacuzzi • Gymnasium • Solarium • Gift Shop • Pony Trekking (available nearby) • Fishing (available nearby)

NEARBY GOLF COURSES: Though situated in the Northeast, travelling times to Dublin and the other two great northern courses (Royal Portrush & Portstewart) are approximately the same. The hotel is situated adjacent to Royal County Down and is about 2½ hours drive from Royal Portrush and Portstewart. Malone, also in the Northeast, is a superb course, while Ballyliffen and Rosses Point are within driving distance. Because Newcastle is only 2½ hours from Dublin, playing courses such as Portmarnock and The Island is also possible.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS: Picturesque Tollymore Forest Park is close at hand and is ideal for walking and pony trekking, while the Giants Causeway, with its breathtaking rock formations, is 2½ hours away and is a must for visitors to this part of the country. Belfast City is little over an hour from Newcastle and offers a fantastic selection of shops.
